The first UK fanbase for Lim Young Woong.
Lim Young Woong is a Korean solo artist who debuted in 2016 and rose to fame in 2020, after becoming the first ever winner of Mr Trot. His winning votes accounted for 30 percent of the total score, receiving 1,374,748 votes.Although he rose to fame performing Trot music, his discography covers a wide range of genres including kpop, ballads, EDM, hip hop, dance, folk pop and pop rock.
He released his first solo album on 3rd May 2022 and immediately broke records, becoming the first male solo artist in South Korean history to sell 1 million copies in the first week, 900 thousand of which were sold in the first 24 hours. He also won Album of the Year and Artist of the Year that same year at the Melon Music Awards.
He released his second solo album IM HERO 2 on 29th August 2025. He decided to take a different path with this album, opting out of a physical album. Instead he released a photo album of concept photos and album credits as a memento for fans which was only available to buy on his official site imheromall. The reasonings behind this decision was based on two factors.1. Environmental.
Often albums are mass produced and over purchased and, in the current times, never used. They are not recyclable and are generally bad for the environment. The photo book is 100% recyclable.2. Pressure on fans.
Chart wars are a big thing in the music industry, with fans needing their faves to be number 1, or fans feel pressure from haters to keep albums at the top of the charts, so multiple copies of the same album are purchased by one individual to inflate sales. He did not want fans to feel this pressure and, as the photo book does not qualify for charts, fans would generally buy one copy each.He has a long history of putting the environment before earning profit and this just adds to that list. The album debuted at #7 on the melon weekly album chart through streams alone and as of today (2nd Nov 2025) has remained in the top 20.
